When we developed Tarmac, we didn't want it to be JUST fast. We wanted it to be fast everywhere. Long climbs, windy straights, grand tour stages, local grand fondo - we made a race bike that is the most complete. How did we do it? We started with a Rider-First Engineered™ frame that delivers a perfectly tuned ride quality for every size. We added serious aero technology that makes it 45 seconds faster to 40km than the Tarmac SL5, and then we made it 20% lighter. Nothing is lighter, faster or better handling. This Tarmac comes with seamless components - Shimano Tiagra mechanical shifting and efficient hydraulic disc brakes, durable Axis Sport Disc wheels, and our popular Power saddle. To develop the Tarmac, we used advanced aerospace composites optimization software to revolutionize both the construction and layup of the new FACT 8r carbon. 500 pieces create 7 different sizes with the same tuned ride - that's Rider-First Engineered™. We research every layer of carbon on every frame size to ensure all of our performance goals are met. To ensure you get the perfect ride feel, each frame has a unique carbon layer layout, orientations, amount of material in specific areas, and sometimes even exclusive thicknesses and types of carbon itself. Aerodynamics are the most important thing that can make you faster, but with the Tarmac we've added aero without affecting the weight of the bike. Through development, we discovered three areas where we could add aero "for free" - a new fork shape, lowered seatstays, and a D-shaped seat tube and seat tube. The result? A Tarmac that's approximately 30 seconds faster at 40 kilometres. The updated geometry is based on many Retül data points and feedback from professional riders. This has allowed us to develop a Performance Road geometry that perfectly combines a responsive front end and short wheelbase to provide instant response and optimal power transfer.
